A partial U.S. federal government shutdown officially began early Saturday after lawmakers missed the funding deadline, but major leaders in Washington say they expect it to be much shorter than last year’s 43-day closure and could end as soon as Monday or Tuesday once the House acts.
"Fort Bliss is currently in a partial government shutdown. The garrisons' operations, services, and support will continue in support of operational readiness, life, and safety of our community. We anticipate minimal impact to installation services," the military post stated.
Senate Democrats blocked two Republican-backed measures Thursday to keep the department open, including a short-term funding extension for two weeks as negotiations continue.
